This Week at HHS (2/6)

February 5th, 2012 6:54 pm

With a difficult week passing us, we will continue to remember the memories that Christie Dover bestowed upon us all.  A beautiful service on Saturday commemorated a beautiful lady in the life of the Hillcrest Bands and all who knew her.  May God bless her and her incredible family for years to come.

She is Headed Home…

January 29th, 2012 10:49 pm

Dear Band Family:

This morning, January 29, 2012, Christie Coggins Dover went to be with the Lord.  She is survived by her three wonderful children, Forrest, Crimsynn, and Courtney, and husband Jim.
If I may take a moment to share with you my relationship with her…
Christie was the “mother” figure of many aspects of the Hillcrest band programs, but mostly the Visuals. For those that knew her well, you know that she was the heavenly example of true love, the form that can only be God given.  There is no doubt that Christie will continue to live on in the lives of each one of us. Her spirit is here with us, even now.  She has touched all of us deep within the inner workings of the heart, a part that only few can possibly reach.  In the three short y ears that I was privileged to know her, work with her, and become an “adopted, financially non-responsible” son (as Jim says), I learned more about life itself than I had in 23 years.  The band family at Hillcrest has lost such a great person today, but Heaven has surely gained a jewel.  Christie fought hard to the end; God was just ready for her now :)
Christie and Jim’s greatest treasures are surely their three kids.  The Dover family has always been one of strong values, grounded principles, and love for God.  We continue to keep them in their prayers and will watch them grow as they live out the life as their mother laid out for them.
In lieu of flowers for the family, Christie wanted a scholarship fund developed for the Crimsonettes, the majorette line in the “Million Dollar Band.”  More details about that will be given in the future.
Christie, we love you.  We will surely miss you.  You will always live in our hearts and souls until we finally meet again.  Thank you for what you have given us, for what you have taught us, and for being the Mom we all needed.  It isn’t “Goodbye” that we say now, but “until we meet again.”

This Week at HHS (1/23)

A huge congratulations to the Hillcrest High School Percussion Ensemble for their performance at the Alabama Music Educators Conference this past Friday.  Not only was the performance virtually flawless, but the room was filled with standing room only, and people commented frequently, “That was the best concert of the weekend,” and “That was incredible!”  The young men and women of the ensemble made their High School administrators, band family, and directors very proud.  You can see a recording of the video at the following link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/hillcrest-bands

VISUAL MEETING MONDAY (January 23): All interested students wishing to audition to be a majorette, dancer, or guard member need to attend the meeting in the band room at 6:30 pm.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
